NORTH CLARE The landscape of North Clare is diverse and magical.
The Cliffs of Moher, standing firm against the might of the Atlantic
Ocean; the lively energy of the match-making spa resort of
Lisdoonvarna and the golden lining of the beach inside the curve of
Liscannor Bay at Lahinch.
Doolin is on
the fringe of the world famous Burren, a remarkable limestone area
which has a combination of many visual features that make it unique
in Europe. Its geology, flora, caves, archaeology and history set it
apart as a place of mystery and beauty - an explorers
dream.
Home to 'The Great Stalactite',
Doolin Cave is a natural phenomenon. It is one of Europe's
most wondrous cave attractions. A truly memorable experience.
Open daily 10:00 to 17:00 (March to November)
As you travel through the Burren, 7,000 years of
history unfolds before your eyes, with farmsteads from the Stone Age
and the Iron Age, churches, abbeys and high crosses, plus castles
and fortresses of local lords. The mysteries of the Burren unfold at
the Burren Centre in historic Kilfenora, Burren eXposure in
Ballyvaughan and Aillwee Caves.
You can savour the cultural
riches of music, song and dance at Doolin, where traditional
musicians gather to celebrate Clare's musical wealth. Many towns and
villages including Liscannor, Kilfenora, Ballyvaughan and
Lisdoonvarna enjoy spontaneous music/dance 'sessions', which can
last long enough to test the most energetic visitor.
Our
restaurants offer fine foods with local seafood a speciality and
craft shops offer a range of locally produced hand-crafted
products.
North Clare has an array of activities to choose
from including caving, mountain climbing, gliding, painting,
photography, bird-watching, sea fishing plus coarse and game
angling, horse riding, pony trekking, water-sports and diving, as
well as walking and cycling and golf at the world famous
championship course in Lahinch.
